Green Bay Packers - Team History:
How many more years does Brett Favre have in this league? I would have thought we had seen the best days of him a few years ago until all of a sudden he is leading the team to the division lead half way through the season. The Green Bay Packers have a great history playing at Lambeau Field and all the greats that have passed through the organization like Bart Starr, Don Hutson, Willie Davis, Paul Hornung, Reggie White, and soon to be Brett Favre. Favre has led the team to a Super Bowl and the "cheeseheads" were loving it. The Packers are notorious for tough nosed football in cold weather climates. This year the defense is really standing tall with Charles Woodson at cornerback and the team is winning.
The history of the Packers is what makes this franchise special and the people of Green Bay adore them. What other crowds would sit in below freezing temperatures to root on their home team. It's always nice to see the community get 'paid' back so to spead with a winning season and plenty of excitement heading to the playoffs. The big question mark around the team is of course the health of aging quarterback Brett Favre. Can he stay healthy and perform the entire season? You can follow the team online at Packers.com and check out the latest game stats, team standings, roster moves, injury updates, read press releases, and gameday analysis. The Packers may have one last run in them before Favre has to retire and this could be the year. Their division isn't that hard with the Vikings and Bears struggling, the only team to watch will be the Detroit Lions who suddenly are contenders again. Good luck to Brett in his last season (maybe) and hopefully the 'cheeseheads' can celebrate one more time.
Green Bay Packers Cheerleaders:
The Packers used to have cheerleaders as recent as 1988. After that season ended the teams top management chose to not retain the cheerleaders based on a vote that the fans were involved with. There are currently no plans to get a cheerleading squad in Green Bay although at times the team has used cheerleaders from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and St. Norbert College at their games. The fans still seem interested in the notion of the team attaining a cheerleading group as we read several posts in online chat forums of the Packers voicing this opinion. For now, the fans at the home games will have to keep their attention on the players instead of the beautiful cheerleaders. The Packers are not the only team in the league without cheerleaders as the Lions, Steelers and Browns are a few others that don't have them.
