Funskins - Music Downloads and Free Ringtones

We offer all the latest information on ringtones - how to download them, install them and use them on your cellular phone.

Best Ringtones

Ringtones have become close to a billion dollar industry worldwide with all the cell phone companies offering them on their select phones. We did some reviews of the best ringtone companies to find out which ones actually give you what you want. No matter what type of cell phone you have (Nokia, Motorola, LG, Samsung, Kyocera, or Ericsson) you can play your favorite songs as your ringtone when someone calls your cellular phone. It's really an inventive way for people to personalize their mobile phones and make them unique. Many companies offer the typical "free ringtone" gimmicks where you sign up for a subscription for monthly downloadable ringtones for a set price that keeps billing you each month unless you cancel the service. As it turns out most people never cancel the service since their billed on their carriers bill and they don't notice the added charge. When ringtones first came on the scene, many were free to download and then the business side of things caught up to us all and they started charging at least $1 per ringtone, sometimes up to $1.99 for just one simple tune. Seems crazy, but cell phone users are paying the tab.

The most recognized ringtone download service is run by Cingular. You can view the details online at http://www.cingular.com/media/ringtones - it's called the Tone Club and you get monthly access to ringtone music ranging from classic rock, alternative, hip-hop, R&B, pop, Latin and country. Many of the hottest musicians offer their songs as ringtones and Cingular has them in their library of tunes. The Verizon ringtone site is located at http://getitnow.vzwshop.com/index.aspx?id=music and they offer a whole bunch of music downloads available as V CAST Music, ringback tones, or ringtones. The top 10 ringtones on the Verizon site at the time of this review were Ludacris, Beyonce, JoJo, Nickelback, Fergie, Justin Timberlake, Sean Paul, Jessica Simpson, Ne-Yo, and Brooke Hogan. The Verizon "Get It Now" ringtone service allows you to buy the ringtones right from your cell phone interface. Sprint and Nextel ringtones can be browsed online at http://www.sprint.com/digitalmedia/iden/index.html. Their most popular ringtones are from 50 Cent, Gnarls Barkley, Shakira (Hips Don't Lie), Nelly, and the Rolling Stones. It used to be that only a few songs were available as ringtones on these sites, but now the artists realize the money to be made and almost all songs have been licensed out to the content carriers.

How do I Download Free Ringtones:

To download free ringtones, you need to go online and signup either with your carrier or the ringtone download services like Flycell and get your free trial samples. These sites will guide you through the install routine. We found the best ringtone site to be provided by Verizon Wireless and a close 2nd was DadaMobile. Many of the sites that offer "free ringtones" are just doing that to get your monthly subscription fee started and they will gladly give away a few ringtones in exchange for your monthly revenue. Watch your mobile phone bill closely each month to see what kind of rates you are paying for text messaging or ringtone downloads. It can get expensive, we have heard some cases where people were downloading 100 of ringtones and being charged $1000's.

Free Nokia Ringtones

If you are the type that wants everything for free on the Internet, including ringtones, then you will have to search pretty hard. Of course, the most obvious place to start looking for free ringtones is on your cell phone. Almost all cellular phones these days come with some preset ringtones that have been installed at the factory. The free ringtones are free for a reason, mostly because the music they play are not popular. There are alternative ways to get free ringtones to your cell phone, one of which is new software where you copy a portion of the song you want and then connect your phone to your computer to download the song that you "ripped" from a CD. It's actually legal to do since you already paid for the song (presumably) and own the CD. As long as you are not selling the ringtones to others, then you can use it on your own personal listening device for free. Some of my friends have made 100's of snippets from their favorites songs and transferred them to their phones. The only problem is storage space on cell phones, you can't keep 100's of songs at a time, so you need to keep changing them in and out. Motorola has a website dedicated to ringtones and downloads called Motofun at Motorola.handango.com. Just select your carrier and cell phone model and get access to tons of ringtones.
